Early Stage of "Fisherman"

Fisherman’s Memorial

“Homeward Bound” is the title of the figure created by sculptor, Leonard Craske. His design was accepted in September of 1923 and dedicated in August of 1925. This memorial honors the memories of over 10,000 Gloucester Fishermen who lost their lives at sea. Please visit for more information.

Early Stage of “Fisherman”

A one-inch grid system was used to determine proportion. Hard leads were used on 90% of the image (6, 5, 4, 3 & 2H). The darkest shades (H & HB) were applied at the very end, to avoid “dusting of the paper”.
